Honestly, I don’t know. The iPhone scene has had no fascinating/exciting news for a while. In a few months, there is an expected new iPhone model, by then the jailbreaking community will be thriving with lots of interesting information. At the moment, there is simply nothing to write about.

I’m sorry to the people who check here every day to see if there is a new article, but don’t expect much until something big happens.

By the way, Wordpress for iPhone is so handy :D Right now I’m writing this in Australia. Would recommend to all you bloggers out there.

Enough with all these comments in the Russian language! Please, translate or don’t comment at all. I’m sick of translating all of the comments into English to see if they are spam or not. If you have to comment in Russian, at least provide a link to a translation, or a translation below the original text.

No, I have nothing against Russian people, or the language and I am not being rascist. I just do not want to translate comments all the time.

Thanks,

Hey guys,

Sorry for the lack of posts/articles/updates lately. I’ve been quite busy, and not much interesting news is popping up in the iPhone world. I should have a couple of posts up this week coming. Once again, sorry for not updating it as much as I should.

Quick Reply for SMS is a handy mod, which allows users to reply to an SMS without leaving the application they currently have open. As you will probably know, when an incoming SMS is received, the user will have the option to close the alert, or tap reply, and the built in messages application will be opened. This tweak is a mobile substrate add-on that, when a new SMS arrives, allow you to tap reply, and a new interface (resembling the standard messages app) will pop up and show the conversation you have had with the person that sent the text message. Once the message has been typed and sent, the interface will disappear, and the application you had open will be made responsive again. This can be extremely useful when you are doing something like a game or watching a video, and you don’t want to exit the application and have to wait for it to load again. Quick Reply for SMS also supports replying from the lock screen. When the iPhone is locked and an SMS is received, the user can double tap on the alert and the new interface will appear, ready to send a text message. This paticular Cydia package is a paid application, which can be purchased from the Cydia Store, but like many things in Cydia, there are other ways to get it. If you know what I mean.

Google has officially added support for push email for iPhone users on the Gmail service. This is delivered using the Google Sync technology. Push email is, in essence, instant email. As soon as an email is sent, it is immediately received with push email. Push email uses the ActiveSync protocol, created by Microsoft, as well as Microsoft Exchange.

Statement from Google:

When we launched Google Sync for Contacts and Google Calendar earlier this year, an over-the-air, always-on connection to sync mail was noticeably absent. We heard your requests loud and clear, and starting today you can use Google Sync to get your Gmail messages pushed directly to your iPhone, iPod Touch, or Windows Mobile device.

You can set up push Gmail by itself or choose to sync your Contacts and/or Calendar as well. If you’re using an iPhone, make sure you’re running iPhone OS version 3.0 or above (on your device, click Settings > General > About and scroll down until you see Version). If your software is out of date, follow Apple’s upgrade instructions. Then, visit m.google.com/sync from your computer for set up instructions. If you’re already using Google Sync, you can just enable push mail.

When you set up your new push email account, you will have to delete your old Gmail account. Luckily, since Gmail is IMAP based, mail and contacts are not lost and are synced back to the phone when the push email is set up. So don’t worry about losing data!

Note: Push email WILL reduce your battery life, although you may not notice it. This is because a connection is always open to the mail server, much like the Apple Push Notification Service.
